a rescuer highly regarded for finding the missing nationwide thinks ‘two things could have happened to him’

Natacha de Crombrugghe, 28, from Brussels, has not given any sign of life since January 23, when she was on a trip to Peru. The intense search continues. Among those mobilized, we find Eloy Cacya, a renowned rescuer there and also nicknamed “The angel of the disappeared”.

The rescuer became known in his country following finding the body of Ciro Castillo Rojo, a 26-year-old student who had disappeared in the same area where the search for Natacha is being carried out. The young man had gotten lost and had fallen to his death.

Eloy Cacya explained in the columns of the Nieuwsblad that he thought that two things might have happened to Natacha. “We have to do our job in an inhospitable area. Also, the weather is very bad. There is a storm, it is raining,” explains the rescuer. He adds that the walk that Natacha was doing when she disappeared is “well marked” and not extremely dangerous, “but there are difficult points”.

Eloy Cacya thinks that “two things might have happened”: “Either she checked into a lodge on the way, and might not contact her family, for example because she is sick. Either she took the wrong path and she is lost”, believes “The angel of the disappeared”. But he adds that the area is fringed with wild animals, which can attack people. “There are also other people walking around here, perhaps with less good intentions. We will keep looking until we find something,” concludes Cacya.
