On September 7, Apple presented during its conference “Far Out” a new generation of smartphones. Around the iPhone 14, the “Plus” “Pro” and “Pro Max” models are arriving.
If the “classic” model offers few photo modifications, this is not the case with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Both models were presented by Apple with major improvements in the photo sensors.
The main addition this year is the arrival of a 48MP sensor as well as a clear software improvement when it comes to low-light exposures. The MacRumors teams combed through these new features to see the level of difference between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the 14 Pro Max.
The arrival of a new 48 Mpx sensor does not ultimately change the situation so much. Indeed, Apple uses the pixel binning technique, which combines 4 pixels into one. This gives a classic 12 MP photo. Only photos in “ProRAW” mode remain in a heavier format of 48 Mpx.
The differences between the two lenses are therefore quite subtle, especially in good light conditions. The iPhone 13 Pro Max was already a very good photophone, the release of a new model does not change anything.
With a more experienced eye it is possible to see differences between the two photos. MacRumors reports that shadows and reflections are handled a bit better with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Le mode “action” en guise de “One More Thing”
But the real difference is ultimately when taking photos in night mode. Once the brightness is low enough, the iPhone 14 Pro Max stands out from its predecessor. There is less noise and less light reflection. The differences are not huge, but they are there and allow to make a nuance between the two phones.
Finally, for video the iPhone 14 Pro Max can boast of the arrival of the “Action” mode. It must limit tremors and thus offer a smoother image even if the person behind the device is moving.
