The image of zodiacal light, a fairly rare spatial phenomenon, was once once more taken above the Château de Losse (Dordogne), by amateur astrophotographer Julien Looten. His first exceptional shot of an “eaglet” went around the world. A great exhibition for the Périgord noir site.
The young amateur astrophotographer Julien Looten did it once more: he captured a rare new astronomical phenomenon, once more above the castle of Losse (Dordogne). The first time, the image of the airglow, a kind of firework through the atmospheres, traveled around the world. And the Périgord noir site with it.
This shot “was published on Instagram and the account of the castle has been identified”remembers Martin de Roquefeuille, the manager of the place. “This one caught my attention. because of course you don’t see them every day. I believed in an assembly”, he continues.
Growing reputation of the castle
Since this photo captured in January 2023, Martin de Roquefeuille hears a lot regarding it, and its castle too: “I have noticed a peak in the consultation of the website, which is supposed to be quite quiet at this closing time. It would not surprise me if some visitors make us think.
On February 14, Julien Looten this time photographed a zodiacal light, a triangular glow that emanates from the horizon, as a bonus connected to a magnificent Milky Way. The manager of the Château de Losse is hardly surprised by this winning double from the astronomy enthusiast: “We are lucky to be in a valley that is very protected from light pollution, which allows to observe the stars in a rather extraordinary way.”
“A Little Notoriety”
“It’s a small notoriety that we welcome with pleasurerejoices Martin de Roquefeuille. This allows us to welcome visitors and finance heritage. For that, we are therefore delighted.” The owner of the castle and the young photographer reflect on maybe set up a project together shortly.
In the meantime, the manager of the Périgord noir site sees a funny “wink” in this frenzy around these photographs of the sky and space. “The arms of the de Losse family and engraved in many places [du château], on stained glass, etc. are nine gold stars. The symbol of Losse are stars, says Martin de Roquefeuille. I obviously find it very amusing that Losse’s fame passes through the starry vault.”
