Las Vegas police arrested a Nevada rapper on murder charges following saying in a statement that he “confessed to his crime in the lyrics of his song.”
CNN quoted a press release issued by the Las Vegas Police Department as saying that Kenjuan McDaniel was arrested on August 29 on charges of premeditated murder using a deadly weapon. Bail was set Thursday at $1 million with electronic monitoring, according to court records.
McDaniel was considered a person of interest and suspicion in the death of Randall Wallace on September 18, 2021, in part because he was linked to confessions matching his description.
According to the arrest warrant, the development in the case was when, in July, an investigator noticed a music video clip that McDaniel had posted on YouTube, so he reviewed the lyrics of the song and the video.
Investigators noted that the music video bore “a sufficient level of similarity to the details of the murder.” This includes the fact that Qingwan confessed to the murder in his words.”
“The details provided by Kingwan in his music video were not released to the public and were not known to everyone,” the memo said. The lyrics included in the note detail the killer’s movements, and suggest that he got what he wanted from the operation, while the police indicated that the details of the killing were not released to the public. Additionally, the report states that while McDaniel was rapping in the video, he reenacted the killing that was “consistent with evidence found at the scene.”
