A racist praise – what a paradox – 2024-03-12 18:48:41

Commentary on the brave new world

Anyone who thinks that wokism only exists elsewhere, but certainly not among the ultra-conservative Hungarians, read this.

A football coach in the first national league recently suffered from praise. After a league game, Géza Mészöly actually wanted to recognize his striker Franklin Sasere for his performance. Mészöly, who made it to the national team as a defender, said of the Nigerian: “I didn’t like playing against such black giants who can hold the ball perfectly thanks to their stature.”

Géza Mészöly made his coaching comeback at Újpest FC after twelve years.

“Black” doesn’t work at all

To everyone’s surprise, the MLSZ football association launched an investigation immediately after the press conference. As a result, the football coach was banned for three months for “racist” comments. At least the disciplinary committee showed itself to be generous by placing two of the three months on “probation”, which will only come into force if Mészöly allows himself another derailment. Újpest FC protested in vain against the association’s decision, which went against the spirit of the rules. Of course, this statement could not be missing the phrase that the club treats any form of racism with zero tolerance.

“Please learn from your mistake!”

What makes the whole story even more bizarre is what MLSZ boss Sándor Csányi explained about it. Initially, the head of the association agreed with the Prime Minister, who viewed the punishment as excessive. To then add: “The truth is, however, that we are talking about the minimum penalty that can be imposed in such a case.” The disciplinary committee has to adhere to the UEFA rules, and there the classification of a player as “black” is considered “Clearly as racist discrimination. Csányi, who was himself vice-president of UEFA until 2023, gave the club coach Mészöly some good advice: Because he reaches masses as a football coach, he should pay more attention to his choice of words in the future. “I really hope that Géza Mészöly learns from his mistake.”
