A Quebec woman dies in an avalanche in Ecuador

Quebec businesswoman Rebecca Dinelle, 25, died last Thursday while attempting to climb a volcano in Ecuador.

She was realizing her dream of climbing to the top of the highest volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes, Chimborazo, when an avalanche swept her away.

During the ascent, she was accompanied by a friend, Éloi Larrivee, 24, who was injured in the accident. It was he who contacted the authorities following the avalanche to report the death of Ms. Dinelle at around 5750 meters.

They are the only two victims of this disaster. The Chimborazo is 6,293 meters high. It is located in the Andes regarding 130 kilometers south of the capital Quito, and is the highest peak in Ecuador and one of the highest volcanoes in the world.

Rebecca Dinelle was the co-founder and general manager of the company 3 Sphères Communications of McMasterville in Montérégie.

His partner Jeff Thibault-Flynn paid him a touching tribute on social networks.

“Rebecca will remain in my thoughts and heart forever, because today, as our loved ones know, I lose my second half and a part of myself.

I would like, in his name, and mine, to thank you for being part of our dreams and adventures from the beginning,” he wrote on Facebook.

The company 3 Sphères Communications also paid tribute to him on Instagram.

“Rebecca, one of the founding pillars of the agency, was at the height of her career. His contagious passion and his desire to push the limits will continue to animate the daily life of the team.

A fundraiser was set up to help Rebecca Dinelle’s family through this ordeal. Insurance does not cover the costs related to his death, and the high costs place a heavy burden on the family.
