The Ibrahim Obaidullah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, which is affiliated with the Emirates Health Services Corporation, achieved a quantum leap in the treatment of stroke, following selecting the study presented by the hospital’s team of doctors as one of the best three studies at the 8th Regional Stroke Conference that was recently held in Abu Dhabi, which is considered the largest conference In the region, it is approved by the World Organization and the European Stroke Organization.
The medical team that prepared the study included Dr. Ammar Al-Omar, a neurologist and supervisor of the Stroke Program at Ibrahim Obaidallah Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Ghazi, Head of the Emergency Department, Dr. Ahmed Abu Hajar, Consultant Neurologist, and Dr. Aya Al-Sayyad, Neurologist.
The hospital stated that the applied study lasted for five years, during which it was able to review 711 stroke cases during the years 2017 to 2021, as the study showed an increase in the percentage of improvement in the number of cases benefiting from treatment from 3.4% in 2017 to 20% in 2021.
The study showed a rapid response and a reduction in the wasted time during which treatment is given to the patient, as it led to the provision of examinations and the start of administering treatments within 39 minutes, up to 25 minutes last October, instead of 116 minutes, in addition to an increase in the rate of treatment delivery within 60 minutes, which is Internationally defined time from the moment a patient arrives at the hospital from 0% to 81%.
Dr. Ammar Al-Omar, a neurologist at the hospital, confirmed that comparing the numbers achieved by the hospital with international numbers confirms the hospital’s superiority, as the percentage of patients receiving treatment in Australia within 60 minutes reaches only 27%, indicating that this achievement was the result of great work by the hospital staff in The Emergency Department, the Internal Medicine Department, and the Neurology Department, in cooperation with the Angels Initiative, and within the framework and support of the Emirates Health Services Corporation.
Al-Omar said, “The Foundation has provided training and devised practical and scientific solutions in order to ensure that appropriate treatment is given to the largest possible number of patients who are eligible for treatment and as soon as possible, and this leads to great benefit from patients in reducing the treatment period and future disability due to a stroke.”
