According to researchers from the University of California, an inexpensive over-the-counter drug might cure people who suffer from long Covid. A fortuitous discovery that they made thanks to two patients who were taking antihistamines. Explanations.
An antihistamine once morest long Covid?
Spring is slowly making its arrival and, for people sensitive to pollen, this means the return of allergies. This year, if you take antihistamines, you may also be curing your long Covid if you have it. In any case, this is what happened to two American patients.
Fatigue, shortness of breath, tinnitus, taste and smell disorders, muscle pain, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, hives, pruritus, memory loss, erectile dysfunction, menstrual disorder, insomnia, sweating, etc. The list of symptoms linked to the long Covid is extremely… long too. Among the people who have recovered from this disease, nearly 54 million suffer from post-acute sequelae of Covid-19 for which no treatment has yet been found. However, researchers at the University of California discovered, by chance, that antihistamines might cure these patients.
An inexpensive, over-the-counter drug
In one article (in English) published on February 7, 2022 in The Journal for Nurse PractitionersAmerican scientists explain how an inexpensive over-the-counter drug might improve the symptoms of long Covid in a large proportion of patients. An inexpensive drug that would treat Covid? We see you coming but no, it’s not chloroquine!
It was by taking diphenhydramine – an antihistamine – in order to treat health problems that have nothing to do with the coronavirus, that two patients saw the symptoms of their long Covid almost disappear. For the moment, the story of these two women is not 100% proof that there is a completely effective treatment for long Covid. Nevertheless, American scientists believe that this discovery gives hope to all people who have symptoms and whose daily life is impacted because of them.
