The foundation that manages the Gnome project has just announced the arrival of Holly Million as executive director, and the least we can say is that this choice is controversial. Indeed, elements of the latter’s CV indicate that she defined herself at one time as a “professional shaman”.
Gnome is a desktop environment open source widely used in the GNU/Linux world, it is for example the default choice for the very popular Ubuntu distribution. And if the press release from the foundation which manages the project is quite consensual on the career of Holly Million by citing two diplomas (one Master of Arts in education and Bachelor of Arts in English, two university degrees), Bryan Lunduke (a GNU/Linux specialist) seems a little cautious regarding his skills in the software field.

He explains on his blog that she obviously has no experience in the software world, either in relation to Gnome or to GNU/Linux. But above all it shows that his site personnel, whose access was cut off a few days ago, presents her as a “professional shaman”, specializing in medicinal herbs. Additionally, part of his work apparently involved selling “spiritual herbs” and hosting remote “shamanic energy cleansing” sessions. As he notes, his Instagram account has also been made private, but his Facebook page remains accessible.

While all this may make you smile, the questions remain legitimate: she obviously has no experience in the field, and the Gnome foundation has decided to completely omit her past. Past, what’s more, that Holly Million tries first to place under the carpet. Being a shaman is not an absolute problem in this case, but the attempts to hide this part of his life remain astonishing.
