” I’m exhausted. I can not stand it anymore “. A prison guard, in a relationship with a former prisoner, filed a complaint with the Béziers court in the fall of 2021 once morest the prison administration for moral harassment, according to France Bleu Hérault, who collected her testimony on Tuesday.
This 42-year-old mother, on sick leave for depression since last summer, castigates the attitude of her prison colleagues towards prisoners. “Today I speak. I know the consequences. But it is no longer possible for me to remain without reacting, ”she said to the local radio.
“I witnessed the assault of an inmate. Three guards entered his cell and attacked him,” reports Mélanie*. She also says that she was aware of rapes suffered by an inmate in his cell by his fellow inmate. After reporting the facts to his superior, the latter would not have intervened. “I informed my department head who was present that day. I explained him. He told me, word for word: put him back in his cell (…)”. The supervisor then recounts “having gone above her hierarchy”, by having the inmate “change” cell.
The mother of the family explains that she has thus paid for “her franchise”, but not only. “My companion is a former prisoner. The administration never tolerated it. My co-workers are all aware. My superiors too. However, this information is strictly confidential. And this confidentiality was not respected, ”she judges. “An investigation was carried out by the administration to find out if I had known him in detention and if he was under my authority. There was a classification without follow-up meaning that I had respected my code of ethics, ”she recalls, in passing.
Mélanie says, however, that she suffered a form of “persecution” from her superiors (schedules modified at the last minute, excessively heavy workloads). Since then, the supervisor, still assigned to Nîmes, has requested her transfer to Béziers for a family reunion. To date, regarding twenty requests have been refused, she laments.
