The Algerian Football Federation published around one o’clock in the morning a statement that was ambiguous to say the least, reporting an a priori negative response from the FIFA arbitration committee in the Gassama case.
The press release says that in response to the complaint lodged with the arbitration committee concerning the Algeria – Cameroon match, the FAF was the recipient yesterday May 6 of a letter from FIFA which indicates, “We regret that, according to your assessments, the decisions of the referees might have negatively influenced the course of the meeting. We have taken good note of the elements of your letter and we can already guarantee that all the incidents that occurred during the match have been carefully examined by the two video referees, in accordance with the Laws of the Game and the assistance protocol. video to arbitration”.
This terse press release, which a priori partially reproduces the content of the letter sent by FIFA (it would have been wiser to publish a facsimile of it), does not clearly state that a decision has been taken but suggests that the commission has nothing to reproach the referees, while recognizing the existence of incidents…
The release ultimately opens up more questions than answers. One of them is to know what is the real content of the file presented by the FAF, since the letter from the arbitration committee only speaks of gambling incidents.
Given the inaccessibility of the FAF site at this late hour and the distribution of the press release on the other usual distribution platforms (facebook, twitter and instagram), the vagueness continues to float above a file followed nervously by many supporters.
