Ioniq 6 N and N Vision 74
Hyundai’s new electric athletes are drifting here
Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6 N and maybe also N Vision 74 – from 2023 the already dynamic Hyundai electric cars will be even sportier. The new competition might even be dangerous for Porsche Taycan & Co.

A prototype of the Ioniq 6 N with the Star Wars-like designation RN22e is already busy doing test laps on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring (D). Since this rolling sports laboratory with the Ioniq 5 the E-GMP platform and also shares the drive train, its technical data reveal the power with which the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N should climb into the ring from next year.
The 4.91 meter long concept vehicle with a 77.4 kWh battery has 4×4, an impressive 585 hp (430 kW) and 740 Nm of torque and can reach a top speed of over 250 km/h. So quite competitive once morest Porsche Taycan and consorts. But a sporty vehicle variant is not only characterized by longitudinal dynamics. Compact athletes like that Hyundai i20 N or i30 N convince today above all by their agility. This should not be any different with the purely electric Ioniq-N versions.
Sophisticated weight reduction
However, the weight of the Stromer is of course significantly higher. That’s why Hyundai uses parts from the 3D printer to make the car lighter. In addition, the Koreans use a system with two clutches for a more dynamic torque distribution. This has the advantage that you only need one electric motor per axis, which corresponds exactly to the E-GMP platform. The system consists of an inner and an outer clutch that can actively distribute the torque to the individual wheels. This makes a second electric motor per axle superfluous.
Because the higher vehicle weight also has to be decelerated, four-piston brakes with powerful 400 millimeter discs are used. Of course, stability is an important issue, which is why the test drives of the RN22e concept vehicle also take place on the race track under the toughest conditions. For better cooling of the brakes, the front spoiler and the cooling ducts have been optimized on the prototypes. The regenerative brakes are used to improve cornering.
Hydrogen powered concept
The second Hyundai N-sportsman concept vehicle, the N Vision 74, allows us to look a little further into the future: it visually pays homage to the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupé concept, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (83). For the prototype, it was garnished with elements of the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo. A fuel cell drive with over 680 hp (500 kW) and 900 Nm of torque is concealed under the attractive shell with the powerful rear wing. This means that the sports car with a 62.4 kWh battery and 4.2 kg hydrogen tank can reach speeds of over 250 km/h and a range of more than 600 km.
It has not yet been decided whether the N Vision 74 concept will also be implemented in large-scale production. It would definitely be desirable and would certainly enrich the world of electric sports cars.
