OnePlus enriches its top of the range with the OnePlus 10T, an Android smartphone that stands out for its power and ultra-fast charging. A promising model who intends to play in the big leagues.
For once, OnePlus has chosen the middle of summer to make a big announcement, presenting the OnePlus 10T, a new smartphone that joins the OnePlus 10 Pro in the high end of the Chinese manufacturer and which will be marketed at the end of August. Focusing above all on performance – it embeds the latest super-powerful chip (SoC) from Qualcomm – this model is also distinguished by its ultra-fast charging, one of the most impressive at the moment. It remains to be seen whether, in a market that is becoming gloomy and in a segment dominated by Apple and Samsung, these arguments will be enough to give it a place in the sun.
OnePlus 10T: high-level performance
In the field of pure performance, the OnePlus 10 T does not fear the competition. It is indeed equipped with the latest chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 – the most efficient SoC on the market. Android, even more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of the OnePlus 10 Pro -, with a random access memory (Ram) of 8 or 16 GB depending on the model chosen – once more, the 10 Pro capped at 12 GB of Ram maximum – and 128 or 256 GB of storage. A nice set that promises excellent performance in demanding applications and very good daily responsiveness – the manufacturer ensures that the device can manage more than 30 applications simultaneously without slowing down.
The OnePlus 10T measures 163 x 75.37 x 8.75mm and weighs 203g, similar in size to the OnePlus 10 Pro and many smartphones in this category. Its display is entrusted to a 6.7-inch flat FHD+ (2412 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED panel screen with a refresh rate varying between 60 and 120 Hz. This offers excellent reading comfort – as on all screens with Oled technology – with a very appreciable fluidity.
OnePlus 10T: 100% charge in less than 20 minutes
The fast charging of OnePlus’ new baby is its biggest selling point. Indeed, with its 4800 mAh battery compatible with 150 W SuperVooc fast charging – it will be delivered with a 160 W charger in its box – the Chinese company promises that fast charging will allow you to go from 1 to 100% battery in just 19 minutes. If the loading is indeed shorter than that of the Xiaomi 11T Pro and its 17 minutes at 120 W – it is equipped with a larger 5000 mAh battery – the 10T may not hold this “record” for long. Xiaomi has already presented at MWC 2022 a 200 W fast charge capable in theory of charging a phone from 0 to 100% in 8 minutes. Similarly, Realme is going to unveil the Realme GT Neo 3 later this year, which will only need 5 minutes to go from 0 to 50%. Finally, Vivo recently announced the iQOO 10 Pro, a model capable of going from 0 to 100% battery in just 10 minutes, thanks to its 200W charger.
Ultra-fast charging raises doubts and reservations with some manufacturers and users. Indeed, even if it is impressive, it is not necessarily recommended because of the safety and the premature aging of the batteries. Heat is the number one enemy of batteries since it overheats them, sometimes until they explode. You can also consult our Factsheet to find out how to protect your smartphone. It’s especially the second phase of downloading – the last remaining 20 or 30% – that is tricky, since manufacturers have to slow down and carefully manage the charging speed, otherwise the process might damage the battery. It is difficult to maintain a correct temperature during charging while not reducing the durability of the battery and keeping a compact size for the smartphone. This is why some manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo and Realme use two batteries in their devices in order to reduce the heating temperature when recharging.
To address this issue, OnePlus installed a new vapor cooling system in the 10T called Cryo-Velocity,”the industry’s first ultra-thin vapor cooling system [qui] combines a larger cooling surface area, advanced materials and a redesigned heat dissipation channel for breakthrough thermal performance.“Similarly, a Battery Health Engine function is responsible for extending cell life and preserving battery capacity. Whether these systems live up to their promises will have to be seen over time.
OnePlus 10T: some concessions on the photo
If it is well equipped with a fingerprint reader, the OnePlus 10T on the other hand ignores the famous alert cursor characteristic of the brand: yet present on all OnePlus smartphones in this range, this button on the left edge of the device allows users to easily change notification mode and sound. The company justifies this decision by the fact that it occupies regarding 30 mm² on the motherboard, which has a “relative impact importanton the construction of the device. To avoid creating a thicker motherboard, and therefore increasing the overall thickness of the smartphone, she decided to simply remove it.
Some concessions also on the photo part, which is less interesting than on the OnePlus 10 Pro. Indeed, the 10T does not benefit from the second generation of Hasselblad camera, which makes it possible to apply the Natural Color Calibration (the natural color calibration) of Hasselblad to more than one billion colors. It is content with an IMX766 main sensor of 50 megapixels (Mpx or MP), an ultra wide-angle sensor of 8 Mpx and a macro sensor of 2 Mpx. For the selfie part, it has a 16 Mpx sensor, which is more than enough for selfies. This configuration is identical to that of the OnePlus Nord 2T, which is nevertheless a mid-range smartphone.
OnePlus 10T: good phone that seeks to distinguish itself
Available in two colors – Moonstone Black and Jade Green –, the OnePlus 10T will be available from August 25, 2022, but it will be possible to pre-order it from August 11 on Amazon and the manufacturer’s official website. It is offered from 729 euros in its version with 8 GB of Ram and 128 GB of storage, and at 829 euros for that with 16 GB of Ram and 256 GB of storage – it is therefore a little more affordable than the 10 Pro . Note that those who pre-order it on the official website will have the right to participate in a contest to win a free OnePlus 10T, discount codes, headphones or even accessories. For its launch, the smartphone will work with the OxygenOS 12.1 software interface – but it will soon be entitled to OxygenOS 13 – and will receive three major Android updates as well as four years of security patches.
