A positive case of Ebola virus disease confirmed in the DRC

A positive case of Ebola virus disease has been reported in the Wangata Health Zone of Equateur province, located in the north-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Jean-Jacques Mbungani, Minister Congolese Health.

In December 2021, the DRC declared the end of the 13th Ebola epidemic, during which eight confirmed cases, three probable, including six deaths, had been recorded in the province of North Kivu (northeast).

Results from genome sequencing conducted by DRC health authorities have revealed that the first Ebola case detected in the 13th outbreak likely represented a new resurgence of the 2018-2020 Ebola outbreak, which killed more of 2,200 people in eastern DRC.
