A popular and most consumed drink in the world reduces the risk of diabetes

Al-Marsad newspaper: Diabetes can be prevented by combining a balanced diet and regular exercise with a special focus on natural foods that can help maintain overall health.

A study published in the journal Diabetologia says that one of these foods is tea. This conclusion comes following a systematic review of 19 cohort studies with more than one million participants.

4 cups of tea

The results indicate that drinking at least four cups of tea per day can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 17%, while those who drank one to three cups experienced a reduction of only 4%.

Researchers say the reason for the tea’s potential anti-diabetic effects might be due to its anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds.

“Our results are exciting because they suggest that people can do something as simple as drinking four cups of tea per day to reduce the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes,” said lead author of the study, Chaeng Li.

What intrigued the researchers even more was that these associations were observed regardless of the type of tea the participants consumed and their gender.

Professor Lee added: “While more research is needed to determine the exact dose and mechanisms behind these observations, our findings suggest that drinking tea is beneficial in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, but only at high doses (at least four cups). in a day”.

The positive effect of tea on the body

He continued: “It is possible that certain components in tea, such as polyphenols, may reduce blood glucose levels, but a sufficient amount of these bioactive compounds may be needed to be effective. It may also explain why there is no association between drinking tea and diabetes. of the second type in our cohort study, because we did not look at increased tea consumption.”

The tea is also believed to have a positive psychological effect on the body as it helps to relax the mind and create a sense of well-being among those who drink it.

Furthermore, it demonstrates the power of natural elements to help prevent or mitigate conditions.

guava

According to the Defeat Diabetes Foundation, guava, a common tropical fruit, can help manage blood sugar levels.

The foundation explains: “Guavas have also been directly linked to helping prevent type 2 diabetes: a recent study showed that eating guavas can help lower and regulate blood glucose levels. Guavas are extremely low in the glycemic index and glycemic load.” in the blood, making it a very healthy food for diabetics and those at high risk of developing diabetes.”

And the site continued: “Even the leaves of the guava tree, which is gaining popularity as a type of tea, has shown promising results as a natural treatment for diabetes, and as a tool for preventing type 2 diabetes as well.”

This study was conducted in 2016 by All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The aim of their study was to determine the potential benefits of guava in preventing diabetes.

In their report, they concluded, “Guava fruit without the peel is more effective in lowering blood sugar as well as total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, and it also increases levels of good HDL cholesterol.”
