The authorities of the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, adopted a plan to evacuate the city’s residents, once morest the background of allegations of an “imminent Russian invasion”.
According to Russia Today, the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed in a recorded statement posted on his Facebook page that this plan specifies the places of gathering, the quantities of transportation required and the safe areas to evacuate residents to in any emergency.
Klitschko noted that basic and social infrastructure facilities in Kiev are preparing to deal with a possible emergency, stressing that the efforts made by the authorities focus on “preventing possible provocations and withstanding a possible military attack.”
He said that there is a “clear plan,” noting that work is currently underway on the deployment of a brigade tasked with defending Kiev from a “Russian invasion.”
He pointed out that the number of shelters for citizens has tripled over the past few years, adding that the authorities are working to develop a system to warn citizens of emergency situations.
This comes once morest the backdrop of escalating tensions over Ukraine, where a number of countries have called on their citizens to leave the country immediately and some have begun evacuating its non-essential diplomatic staff, despite Russia repeatedly denying any plans to attack its neighbor.
