The war of the buttons continues. Already last year at the same time we had a similar situation with the arrival of the configurable button of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. In 2024, it is the Photo Button (the Capture Button in VO) that is making people talk!
Is a Photo button useful?
One of the expected features of the iPhone 16 is a dedicated capture button for photos and videos. CAD drawings and dummy models also suggest that this is not a Pro exclusive but that all four models are getting it.
The change may seem anecdotal – after all, there is already a Bouton Action configurable to activate the camera (who still uses it and hasn’t left it on Ringtone?). In our last survey, only 17% of you used it often, which is very low.
But, this new button could prove very practical for iPhone photographers, especially in landscape mode given its positioning.t. Indeed, if you hold the iPhone with both hands for better stability, you can shoot with your right index finger or left thumb. The gesture will be much more practical than doing it with your index finger – right or left – on the screen (take any iPhone and try these gestures).
For the others, nothing is lost. Apparently Apple is working on a case with built-in buttons that can control the iPhone. This patent also hints at reverse wireless charging, which was rumored for the iPhone 13, but never came to fruition…
the new button is becoming clearer
As every year, accessories appear a few weeks before the product releases, and the iPhone 16 is no exception. After Noreve, it’s the turn of another manufacturer – Chinese this time – to release its cases for Apple’s next baby, with a slightly unusual cut as you can see in the photosintended precisely for this famous Photo button. The latter – located under the side button – is quite imposing, even of equivalent size!
THE Alleged CAD files of the iPhone 16 Pro showed the positioning and dimensions of this new button. On the other hand, the Action button would be slightly larger than that of the iPhone 15 Pro (roughly the same size as the volume buttons).
As a reminder, the iPhone 16 Pro could be equipped with a new Capture Button which would be located on the lower part of the right side. It should take the place of the mmWave antenna for US iPhones (the latter would be moved to the other edge under the volume buttons).
This one should be able to detect multiple pressure levels to obtain different possible actionsphoto or video. According to Mark Gurman, it could record a video, but also zoom in and out by sliding your finger to the left or right or even focus on a subject.
This rumor has a little more credibility than the previous one, taken up by the leaker Majin Bu, who has seen several of his information confirmed in the past. We will also note the presence of the pill-shaped module in the CAD files.
