As surprising as it may seem, there is no pharmacy faculty in Nice. Students must go to one of the 24 French cities that have one. And very often, Riviera residents who choose this specialty turn to Marseille. But they could soon form in the Bay of Angels, and therefore stay there. “It’s going well”assures in any case Raphaël Gigliotti, secretary of the URPS (Regional Union of Health Professionals) Paca Pharmacists.
It details: “We carried out this project at the professional level while Rémy Collomp did it at the university level. So we have worked together in recent years.“Rémy Collomp is the head of the pharmacy department at Nice University Hospital. He also notes “a recruitment problem. There is a shortage of pharmacists and preparers in the department. All areas are concerned: hospitals, pharmacies, research, industry… The objective is therefore to create a pharmacy department at the Nice Côte d’Azur University in order to supply the territory without forgetting the hinterland.”
Favorable responses
“The file was sent several months ago to the Ministries of Health and Higher Education. We also benefited from the support of the Metropolis”, assure the professionals. The community also published a press release on the subject at the beginning of the week.
“We had already received a favorable response from Higher Education and we obtained positive feedback from the ARS this Tuesday who expressed no objectionannounces Raphaël Gigliotti. We still have to wait for the decision of all the deans of France, this should not pose a problem. Thus, we are on track to open a pharmacy faculty at the start of the next academic year.”
“It would be positive because it means more students trained in the region who would therefore be likely to do their internships there and settle there,” analyzes Rémy Collomp. “The numbers would be set at 40adds the secretary of the URPS. They will be added to those of other universities. So this is good news considering the shortage of pharmacists.”
