The Court of Cassation decided, on September 13, to bring French law into compliance with European law regarding paid leave. From now on, in France, we will be able to accumulate days of leave in the event of non-occupational illness or work accident. Exceptionally, the measure is retroactive, it applies to current and past stoppages: all employees or ex-employees who have lost paid leave can ask to have it paid!
“Work value under attack”
This is not to everyone’s taste: the CPME (Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises) launched a petition this Monday to protest against this judgment of the Court of Cassation. In a press release published on its websitethe organization says it is “ resolutely opposed ». « It is the work value which is thus attackedshe regrets. It is completely unfair for an employee absent for a long period to benefit from as much leave as an employee present at their post. »
The CPME, which is the leading French employers’ organization with 243,000 member companies, fears that retroactivity will cost “ several billion » euros each year. She calls on the government to hear “ the indignation of business leaders ».
