A person participating in the London Marathon by loading a refrigerator was stopped by the police

London Marathon I run with a refrigerator on my back World record A man trying to break in has his hopes dashed when the police stop him from doing so during his challenge training.

According to 34-year-old runner Daniel Fairbrother, he was stopped by police officers in the town of Stevenage, England, after being accused of stealing a fridge.

The Fair brothers run an oak tree business and are hoping to break the world record for the fastest marathon run with a large home appliance.

He wants to raise money for ‘Diabetes UK’ by carrying a 27.5kg fridge on his back. He wants to do so in the name of his best friend of 15 years, Sam Wilson, 34, who suffers from type one diabetes.

He says Hertfordshire Police soon realized he had not stolen the fridge but officers praised him for the effort.

Fairbrother, from Stevenage, added: ‘It was night time and it was dark. A police car passed me very slowly and I realized that what I was doing might seem strange to them. And so it happened that they turned around and came close to me. Their blue lights flashed and all traffic was stopped.

‘My face turned red because I was facing this embarrassment, I wondered if they would believe me? Or will they think I’m stealing the fridge?

The police asked: ‘Is that a fridge on your back?’

Fairbrother explained the challenge of his 26-mile run. The officer joked: ‘You know if you order it from the British home appliance maker Craze, they’ll deliver it for you?’

Fairbrother says the officer opened his car window to shake hands and wish them well.

He added: ‘I would have been more upset if they hadn’t stopped investigating after seeing the fridge on my back. This situation was really funny.’

They want to raise £10,000 by running with the fridge and have already raised around £4,500 of that target.

Fairbrother explained that he only started running two-and-a-half years ago and has since competed in half-marathons, marathons and ultra-marathons.

The record for the fastest marathon is four hours, 53 minutes and 10 seconds, and he was inspired to watch a Marine break the world record in the news last year.

He added: ‘My friend Sam is the first person I know who has diabetes and I didn’t know how it affects people. I’m not a doctor and I can never cure diabetes but I can do some odd jobs to raise money for it.’

Fairbrother’s first attempt at a world record nearly failed when he was initially denied permission to run the London Marathon with Diabetes UK.

After being rejected in July, he contacted the charity which put him at the top of the reserve list.

In December, they got the good news they were hoping for.

He added: ‘Obviously I wasn’t training for it and I had to adapt to the way I ran.

He said: ‘The important thing is that I’ve been injury free and I’m determined to win this.’

He has named his fridge after ‘Tillah’, the snowmobile featured in the 1993 American film ‘Cool Runnings’, and has been keeping up with the progress of his endeavor on his Instagram and Tik Tok handles. live

Fairbrother joked that the fridge was like the new woman in his life, taking him away from his partner Hayley Holden, 34.

He takes part in three short runs a week and one long run on the weekend with his unusual companion (the fridge).

He added: ‘Before I could say people would look at me and think hey what’s this doing. But now with the fame I have now I have a lot of support and people stop to honk their horns and cheer me on. It’s amazing to see it all.’
