Altruistic. Friday April 22, a customer paid for the groceries of a retiree who might not pay for them at the checkout of a supermarket in Angoulême (Charente), reports the daily. Free Charente.

The man, who had bought milk, canned food and some treats for his dog, was planning to pay the bill of 32 euros by check, being “in financial difficulty”. But “the platform refused it”, reports La Charente Libre. “The cashier then offered me to keep my purchases until I came back with my bank card. Sheepishly, I admitted to her that she would not come through, my account being in debit…” explains the retiree.

But when he offers to return his purchases, a client, who was present at the scene, paid for the shopping with her own bank card.

In tears

“I asked her for her address to reimburse her, thanking her warmly. She said to me, “”gift, it’s Christmas”,” says the customer, who started to cry. “Reciprocal tears, writes- he. So much so that the cashier told us: “Stop, you’re going to make us all cry”.

By testifying to the newspaper, the retiree says he wants to “warmly thank” the woman who came to his aid. He says he is happy to see “that there are still people in this world with a big heart.”
