Amman- A “psychological pandemic”, according to what experts described to “Al-Ghad”, noting that the psychological impact of “Corona” is great and worrying for members of society.
The effects of Corona were not only physical. The social, health and economic conditions that accompanied the pandemic left behind great burdens, so that psychological troubles and pressures would be a clear phenomenon and people would enter the stage of danger.
The primary concern of experts and specialists, and the World Health Organization, is to protect the mental health of communities and all health care workers, adults, women, children and the most vulnerable in societies. The World Health Organization defined “health” as a state of physical, psychological and social perfection and well-being, and mental health should be taken care of in these difficult periods, especially following the pandemic, while emphasizing the need to include it in the treatment system and consider it an essential part of treatment and give it priority in light of the exacerbation of anxiety and tension following living conditions. difficult situation caused by the pandemic.
For his part, psychologist Dr. Youssef Muslim indicates that, in light of the high infections and mutant cases of the Corona virus, the incidence of mood disorders and depression increases following the Corona pandemic, so it is necessary to have a great priority to pay attention to psychological treatment.
The pandemic affected people with all forms of mental disorders, which calls for attention to the necessary measures to support the psychological aspect.
Muslim stresses the need to seriously consider human health, both physical and psychological, with the need for media campaigns to raise awareness of mental health, just as it is the case with physical health and proper handling of psychological stress, indicating that the Corona pandemic has doubled the suffering of many.
The importance of psychological treatment is clear, according to Muslim, which calls for its inclusion in medical treatment and all forms of health services, like other diseases, and the provision of an integrated service for patients.
Muslim stresses the need to take lessons learned from what happened during the Corona pandemic, and to be able to deal with feelings of fear, anxiety and psychological pressures to raise the level of the immune system.
Behavioral and social therapist Dr. Esmat Hoso, in turn, points out that psychological treatment is no less important than physical therapy because psychological comfort strengthens immunity, thus resistance to viruses and diseases.
Hoso found that the multiplication of life’s difficulties, means more need for psychological treatment, regretting the stigma adopted by society that mental illness is “madness”, which leads to a reluctance to consult specialists, and thus multiply the disturbances and the difficulty of treating them later.
Science has developed, and there is a big difference between mental illness and nervous disease, according to Hoso, and what was difficult to treat in the past has become easy with the progress and development of treatment. Hosu points out that there is an inverse relationship between age and the ability to withstand stress and tension and the ability to contain problems, indicating the importance of looking at psychological problems and their danger to the performance of individuals, relationships and the stability of families, taking into account the inclusion of the psychological aspect of health insurance and the comprehensiveness of treatment.
And support, according to Hoso, does not depend only on mental patients, but also on workers in this sector, which drains a lot of time, energy and effort.
“The disease requires pharmacological, behavioral and psychological treatment,” Hoso says, noting that the “Corona psychological pandemic” has caused more harm to children and adolescents than adults due to their long stay at home, distance learning, depriving them of all entertainment and stress inside homes.
The psychological pressures caused by Corona inside the homes affected the psychological immunity, so Hosu calls on the media and the competent authorities to demand the inclusion of psychological treatment in the health treatment system and to educate people regarding the importance of that. She adds that the culture of defect still exists, delaying treatment and exacerbating the psychological situation, while early treatment leads to improvement of cases without resorting to medication, and here the inclusion of psychological treatment means the presence of professional standards in dealing with sick cases within therapeutic sessions.
The psychological state, such as the body and the soul, is a basis for improving human productivity in order to achieve psychological balance and inner peace, which is generally reflected in the relationships in society.
