A portrait of Marilyn Monroe by pop icon Andy Warhol in the 1960s has sold for $195 million at auction, a record for an American artist’s work sold at auction.
The painting, called “Shot Sig Blue Marilyn,” is one of a series of portraits that Warhol drew of the actress following her death in 1962.
The painting was sold at auction by Christie’s in New York on Monday, with an estimated pre-sale value of about $200 million.
