A packing robot hundreds of times faster than a human

Engineers have developed a robotic arm that can identify, pick and place items 350 times faster than humans, and might revolutionize electronic packaging.

The robot works along the lines of a neural network designed by Ken Goldberg of the University of California, Berkeley, and his colleagues. Amazon and other delivery companies have been looking for a solution for a long time as the trend of internet shopping from home has multiplied worldwide due to the fear of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the same team of scientists has made some changes in the software and hardware, due to which the grasping capacity of the robot arm has increased and now they can see better and three-dimensional (three-dimensional) thanks to the computer. Style sees things in their original place. Thus, they can lift any object better without hitting obstacles.
This is because robot arms move at lightning speed to pick up objects. During this time, due to the fluctuation in their speed, either the object rises in a correct manner or it collides and falls down. Similarly, the robot arm is prone to breakage due to shock.

Experts estimate that for each task, it is necessary to estimate the speed, acceleration and rotation of the robot arm. At this point only computers and neural networks can make better decisions. This is why the team of scientists decided to control the robotic arm with a neural network. To teach the software, they kept thousands of objects and had them practice on them for several months.

This way the robot arm finally knows what it needs to do to save time and lift something in the safest way possible. Thus, the computer can now make this decision in 80 milliseconds, whereas it used to take 30 seconds to make the same decision. This means that the computer makes a quick decision and immediately commands the robot arm to pick up the object. In this way, packing speed can be increased several hundred times.

It should be noted that now if this technology is adopted by a company selling goods online, then its work can be very fast.
