A non-commissioned officer with whistleblower status was dismissed from military service

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the soldier was dismissed from his duties “for a specific violation of discipline”: two tasks a year not completed – slides not prepared on time.

At that time, A. Zavišas himself calls it a crackdown for having noticed and reported the potentially criminal actions of the chief of staff of the 2nd national team of Darius and Girėnas District of the National Defense Voluntary Forces (KASP).

According to LRT, one of the reports is related to possibly fictitious volunteer exercises, the other – to the sale of food products in the unit.

Not getting a reaction from his superiors, Audrius Zavišas turned to the prosecutors and received whistleblower status in two pre-trial investigations. They are still ongoing.

“The prosecutor’s office recognized me as a whistleblower because the information was confirmed and the investigation is underway. And since then, the management started to put pressure, mobbing. During the year, six investigations were initiated, two of which reached the goal and I was fired,” said the non-commissioned officer.

Colonel Ramūnas Švažas, director of the Ministry’s Military Service and Personnel Department, says that the soldier can appeal the dismissal to the court. A. Zaviš claims that he has already done that.

On his part, Marius Steponavičius, the chief of staff of the 2nd national team of the KASP Darius and Girėnas district, who is accused of abuse and mobbing, assures that the soldier was dismissed justifiably, and the information he provided is only assumptions.

According to LRT, several dozen soldiers are dismissed from professional military service every year due to disciplinary sanctions.
