A nightclub turns dancers’ body heat into renewable energy to keep warm

A nightclub in Scotland decided to start testing a system a few days ago that converts the heat coming out of the dancers into energy.

The advanced system works to absorb the heat that comes out of the human body by means of geothermal heat pumps, and it is transferred to wells located at a depth of 200 meters and which is charged “like a thermal battery” to be supplied inside heat pumps.

David Townsand, founder of geothermal consultancy TownRock Energy, explains: “When someone dances to a medium beat, like the Rolling Stones or something, they can generate 250 watts. It can produce 500 to 600 watts of thermal energy.”

By converting human body heat into renewable energy, owners have ditched traditional gas-fired heating and hope and hope to reduce their emissions by around 70 tons of carbon dioxide per year, with the goal of reaching zero carbon by 2025.
