PRESENTING 165 performers from several regions in Indonesia, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bangkok, Thailand held a cultural performance at the Kbank Siam Pic-Ganesha Theatre, Bangkok, entitled Indonesian Cultural Night 2024.
Around 1,000 spectators, most of whom were Thai people, Thai government officials, and diplomatic corps members, seemed to be enjoying the traditional Indonesian dance and music performances such as the Bebarisan Sudamala Dance, performed by ISI Denpasar, the Ronggeng Panggung dance by Padjadjaran University, the Tor Tor dance by the University of North Sumatra, and the Prawira Wengker and Lerok Lelono dances performed by Surabaya State University.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Rachmat Budiman highlighted the importance of cultural exchange as a bridge of friendship between Indonesia and Thailand and other international communities.
“Our cultural heritage is a bridge for our nation. Through this event, we celebrate the richness of our traditions and the beauty of collaboration between Indonesia and Thailand,” said Rachmat.
One of the highlights of the evening’s performance was a collaborative performance between Ambassador Rachmat and the Wattanatham Band from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
Ambassador Rachmat fluently sang a popular Thai pop song entitled Wanipok and conversely, Wattanatham Band expertly played the song Tapisah from Maluku sung by Ambassador Rachmat.

“Tonight’s cultural performance is not only to promote Indonesian arts and culture, but also as a representation of the strong cultural ties between Indonesia and Thailand. Through music, dance, and storytelling, this unique event reflects the deep connection and values shared by these two neighboring countries,” said Ambassador Rachmat.
In addition to collaborating with Wattanatham Band, Ambassador Rachmat also sang Batak songs, namely O Tano Batak, Baringin Sabatola, and Anak Medan, which were arranged by the University of North Sumatra.
Students from the Bangkok Indonesian School also demonstrated their skills in playing the traditional musical instruments angklung and kulintang while performing the songs Jaranan and Sajojo.
Present as Guest of Honor was the Speaker of the Thai Parliament, HE Wanmuhammadnoor Matha. Also present were the Speaker of the Thai Senate, HE Mongkol Surasajja, Executive Secretary of UNESCAP HE Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Busadee Santipitaks, and Governor of Bangkok Chadchart Sittipunt.
Indonesian Cultural Night 2024 is one of the priority programs of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok in the series of Trade, Tourism, Investment and Culture Forum (TTICF) 2024 which is held to strengthen relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand through a combination of cultural performances, business forums, and art exhibitions.
