CD Project Red announces the beginning of a new saga by unveiling the development of its new Witcher game.
CD Projekt Red lance son first new mainstream title in the series since the release of The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt. Here is the information known to date on this new project.
The engine, the main difference between the old and the new Witcher
The old Witcher was powered by the in-house REDEngine used for over a decade by CD Projekt Red. The new Witcher game meanwhile will move to Unreal Engine 5. It is the result of a one-year strategic multi-partnership between CDPR and Epic Games.
This partnership does not make this new Witcher game exclusive to the Epic Games store. CDPR will even continue to use REDEngine for some of his current projects. This is for example the case of the next extension Cyberpunk 2077.
No release date announced
CDPR also noted that no further details on the release date of this new title Witcher was given. However, let’s keep in mind the usual long development times for CD Projekt Red games. It is therefore necessary expect a fairly long time before getting more information regarding this upcoming game from the publisher.
Let’s remember the sadly long development time from Cyberpunk 2077. It was first announced in 2012, only received a trailer in 2013. Its release was then delayed several times before finally hitting the market in December 2020. And even launched, the version of this time had several worries. CD Projekt Red was still smoothing over these issues the year following its release.

Certainly, The Witcher 3 stay to this day one of the best open-world RPGs on the market. The franchise has also reached new heights of popularity thanks to the Netflix series. We therefore understand why CD Projekt Red is seeking to launch a new adventure saga.
