a new wage increase is coming, “additional indexation will soon be put in place”

The price of energy, products in stores and the record amount of fuel at the pump, all Belgians are affected by the increase in the cost of living. Het Nieuwsblad reports this Friday morning that, while our salaries were already increased in January 2022, a new indexation is indeed expected for next year. Which will undoubtedly be good for the wallets.

The average gross salary in January 2022 was 3,757 euros for an employee and 2,480 euros for a worker. These figures represent a plus of 5.5% compared to the previous year. So, what can we expect for 2023? Our colleagues asked the question to Els Vanderhaegen from Securex.

It indicates that the wage indexation mechanism differs from one sector to another. “Not all sectors have already been indexed in January,” says Els Vanderhaegen. She adds: “Additional indexation will soon be put in place for white-collar workers, but we expect a catch-up movement in particular for blue-collar workers and even stronger increases in gross wages, given that the inflation will remain at a high level for some time to come”.

In the same logic, wage costs for the employer will also increase. From 2021 to 2022, this increase was 5%.
