A new video angers the Egyptians .. mass harassment of tourists at the pyramids

During the past hours, many Egyptians have expressed their anger, due to the spread of a new video showing Mass harassment of tourists in the pyramids area in Giza.

The story began after a foreign tourist posted on her Instagram account a video showing a crowd of young men in the vicinity of the pyramids chasing two tourists.

To comment on the video clip explaining what happened. After confirming that the pyramids are a very beautiful archaeological site worth visiting, she pointed out that it is dangerous and uncomfortable at the same time. She pointed out that she was with her friend on a visit to the place, but they were harassed throughout the trip.

She also added that even the little ones tried to attack them, and stole them!

Simultaneously, this video angered many Egyptians who republished it, calling for an end to these actions that are offensive to the country and the image of the Egyptian people, as well as harming tourism.

It is noteworthy that similar scenes were spread last month (May 2022) showing two tourists being harassed by a group, which necessitated the police’s action, and the arrest of the aggressors, so that it became clear that most of them are minors.

Harassment is a widespread phenomenon in some Egyptian regions, but the legislative authorities have passed strict laws to punish harassers. In the summer of last year, Parliament approved amendments to Law No. 141 of 2021, which deals with penalties for sexual harassment.

The act now falls not only under the description of a misdemeanor but a felony as well, to punish the accused from two to four years, and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 pounds, or a hard prison sentence from 5 to 15 years in extreme cases, (according to the description of the offense a misdemeanor or felony).
