The United States has drawn up a new plan to boost electronic chip production, as President Joe Biden’s administration plans to create a network for designing and engineering advanced computer chips.

The cost of establishing the chip network is about $11 billion, and the chip network is likely to be operational by the end of this year.

The new network aims to produce the latest semiconductor technologies, reduce the time from design to marketing, and train workers from technicians to engineers.

The United States imposed a series of export controls on chip-making technology to China, fearing it would be used to produce chips for applications such as artificial intelligence that could be used by the Chinese army, and blacklisted several of China’s largest chip companies, including Micron’s rival Yangtze Memory Technologies.

Last November, Chinese companies imported $2.3 billion worth of semiconductor manufacturing machinery.
