A new ultra-low-cost carrier is coming to Montréal-Trudeau

Alberta low-cost carrier Lynx Air announced on Wednesday that it will serve Montreal with two routes starting in June.

The connections, which will be launched from June 5, will make it possible to travel to Calgary or St. John from Montreal-Trudeau airport.

“We are thrilled to add the vibrant city of Montreal to the Lynx Air network as summer approaches. Although Montreal is a very popular destination, it is currently underserved by low-cost carriers and Lynx wants to remedy this,” said Lynx Air CEO Merren McArtur.

A traveler wishing to make a round trip to Calgary or Montreal with Lynx Air, without baggage, can expect to pay approximately $115, taxes included, at the regular price. However, the bill rises quickly by adding suitcases or even cabin baggage.

In comparison, a similar flight between Montreal and Calgary in June can cost between $450 and $500, with additional costs for checking baggage, we find by simulating a flight reservation on the carrier’s site.

WestJet, for its part, offers a round trip Montreal-Calgary at around $300, without checked baggage.

Formerly known as Enerjet, Lynx Air aims to develop ultra-low-cost flights in Canada and to some American destinations. The carrier operates a small fleet of Boeing-737s.
