A new Swiss coin dedicated to the sun

It’s the perfect time to take it out. The federal mint Swissmint announces on Monday that it will launch a new 20-franc silver coin dedicated to solar energy on the market. It is part of a series launched last year devoted to the three energies of the future: hydraulics, solar and wind. Last year came out the piece dedicated to hydraulic energy. This week, on July 21, the solar energy currency will be released in perfect weather to celebrate the power of the sun.

The obverse of said coin “consists of two different parts, specifies the press release from Swissmint. The upper half depicts a sunrise spreading its rays around, in an abstract form and in color. The lower half represents various technical elements related to the effective production of solar energy: photovoltaic cell, technical drawings of building elements or data concerning the share of solar energy used in Switzerland”.

Quite naturally, the piece bears his name with the inscriptions “SONNE” and “ENERGIE” and the translations “soleil” and “sole”. As is the case with the first room devoted to water, fluorescent elements begin to glow in the dark. This silver coin is only available for sale “in burnished blank quality with case and numbered certificate of authenticity. The series will end in 2023 with the special currency for wind energy”.

The new Swissmint commemorative coin will be available from July 21, 2022 in limited quantities on the site www.swissmintshop.ch as well as with certain coin dealers and certain banks.
