A new space dedicated to community and citizen events is opening in Vilnius – “Krosnies Pavillion” | Culture

Gathering around a fire is an old tradition that creates warmth, protection and a sense of unity. In many cultures, fire is associated with stories, rituals and community gathering, in the Lithuanian tradition the stove was the “core/heart” of the house. Outdoor cooking, campfires, stoves, or their modern equivalents remain crucial elements of community gatherings. Therefore, when creating the “Furnace Pavilion”, the artists aim to restore such an archaic and primordial space that brings people together around the fire and becomes a place to share stories and foster a deep sense of connection between community members.

“Furnace Pavilion” is an interactive architectural sculpture, a public object for community gatherings, education, events and other activities. The dual author’s work is realized in collaboration between interdisciplinary art creator Kamila Krasauskaita and architects Ona Lozuraityta and Petr Išora. The object organically combines the creators’ ideas, functionality and environment – a working furnace and the pavilion designed by the architects surrounding it and the space to which it is adapted. The project proposed by the artist and architects to the “Kuriu Vilnių” program of the Vilnius City Municipality responds sensitively to the needs of nearby communities, forms a new point of attraction in the city and activates public space.

A rich program of public events curated by K. Krasauskaitė is being prepared for the founding of “Krosnies Pavillion”, which will continue throughout the summer and autumn. It is expected that “Krosnies Pavillion” will become a unique point of Vilnius city, connecting food culture, interdisciplinary art and the needs of communities, will offer an alternative for meaningful leisure time outdoors and will turn into a cozy shelter for events and gatherings initiated by communities and cultural field actors.

July 26 from 6 p.m. Artist Anrej Polukord will help establish the “Krosnies pavilion” and bake the first loaf of bread, and the program will be continued by Café Müller (Tauras Stalnionis) and Živilė Mantrimaitė’s performative dinner.
After the establishment of the first fire, on July 27, at 4 p.m. artist Robertas Narkus will invite visitors to a performative picnic.

The founding program of “Krosnies Pavillion” will be accompanied by the sounds of “Radio Vilnius”.

The founding events are free and open to all.
