It monitors compliance with the 30 km/h speed limit on Chaussée de Gand, between Avenue de Sellier de Moranville and Place Schweitzer, in both directions of traffic.
“In Brussels, our control/sanction strategy pursues our vision of zero deaths, zero injuries on our roads”, argued Minister Elke Van den Brandt. “In collaboration with the police zones, we are therefore working to secure and control the most accident-prone zones. The Chaussée de Gand is an important axis. I am happy that on this one, the speed is now systematically controlled. »
The mayor of Koelkelberg noticed that the Region had already placed three fixed speed cameras on the chaussée de Gand and the avenue Josse Goffin, located nearby, and that excessive speeds were observed on these axes. “The choice of the radar-section at this location guarantees compliance with a maximum speed over a certain distance and is explained in particular by the presence of numerous public transport lines, the concentration of schools, shops… Berchem-Sainte -Agathe is a village in the city and the safety of our inhabitants and users of public space must be ensured. It is a priority, like the appeasement of neighborhoods. »
The six other Brussels section radars have been put into service in the Porte de Hal and Stéphanie tunnels, boulevard Léopold III, avenue Jules Bordet, as well as on the quays of Mariemont and Demets. The region also has 90 fixed radars and 7 Lidar.
