Riders and spectators of the Pays de la Loire Region Derby, a special moment of the La Baule International Jumping – Official of France (June 6-9, 2024), will discover a new route and new obstacles. Course manager for the competition, Grégory Bodo has designed a modern course but respectful of the entire historical dimension of the event, with an even greater presence of natural obstacles.
It is a moment always eagerly awaited by the public at the François André stadium. With its ford crossing, its high and low sides, its mounds, and its other natural obstacles, the Derby Pays de la Loire Region is written in the genes of the competition. One of the highlights of the weekendit is also a historical landmark.
The greatest have put their name on the listlike the Brazilian Nelson Pessoawinner six times between 1975 and 1995 or Patrice Delaveaucrowned three times and last Habs winner, in 2019. The public present Saturday June 8 (2:15 p.m.) for the 2024 edition of the Derby Pays de la Loire Region will discover a new route and new obstacles.
« The Derby is anchored in the DNA of the competition, recalls Grégory Bodo, course manager for the Official de France. But in recent years, we have noticed a drop in entries for this event. Our desire was to propose changes to the route and to be a little closer to the spirit of the Derby with more natural obstacles. It’s this natural side that thrills us. The historical dimension must also be taken into account. So I built on the foundations of the Derby while adding a touch of modernity. »
The number of obstacles will remain the same with 21 numbers and the traditional natural obstacles such as mounds, embankments, the fixed river, and the lake. However, the route will be modified. “It will be simple with few changes of hand, like what is done in major Derbys around the world like Hamburg (ALL)Calgary (CAN)or Hickstead (GBR), deciphers the ringmaster. My goal is to offer a course that spices things up, creates emotion and interests riders. To do this, we must offer them a sporting interest but also an “emotional” dimension, so that they have the feeling of doing something different. Spectators must have a touch of nostalgia when they find the Derby they had in mind. The design is also designed so that whatever their position in the stadium (large stands, boxes, etc.), they can at a moment closely appreciate the performance of the horses and riders. » A new promise of a great sporting spectacle and intense emotions.
