A new Prime Minister at the head of a reshuffled government in Guinea

In a decree made public Saturday evening on the airwaves of the state media, the president of the transition, colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, confirmed the Minister of Trade, Industry and SMEs, Dr Bernard Goumou, in the functions of Prime Minister, whom he had occupied as an interim since mid-July. The same decree invokes health reasons to justify the dismissal of the outgoing Prime Minister, Mohamed Béavogui, who has been in Europe for more than a month.

The new Prime Minister was still unknown to the general public a year ago. It took the arrival of Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya in power following the coup of September 5, 2021 for Bernard Goumou to come out of the sacred wood.

Before being then appointed Minister of Commerce, Industry and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises on October 27, 2021, he had been the Managing Director of LANALA Assurance since 2017.

He is a graduate of the Sydney University of Technology in Australia where he obtained his research certificate and then his doctorate in business administration.

This confirmation of Bernard Gomou went hand in hand with a technical reshuffle of the government during which the main positions remained unchanged.

However, six ministers changed portfolios and a seventh, Ibrahima Abey Sylla, in Energy and Hydrocarbons, was fired.

In this game of musical chairs, note should be taken of the permutation between the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Planning and that of the Budget, where Lanciné Condé and Moussa Cissé replace each other, post for post.
