a new preventive vaccination center opens its doors

The Leo Lagrange gymnasium in Nantes is once once more transformed into vaccination center. This time it’s to fight once morest themonkeypox, also called epidemic of “Monkey Pox”, which has been raging in France since May and which has so far affected more than 3,600 people.

Several vaccination booths have been installed in the gymnasium. A group of 20 doctors and 80 nurses take turns to bring the center to life. Four nurses and two doctors are present on site to vaccinate.

There is also six city officials and association representatives prevention programs such as AIDES, which fights once morest HIV and viral hepatitis: “Our role on site is to accompany people who are being vaccinated and inform them so that they can identify all the people at risk around them, and let them know that they are at risk”, explains Vincent Meignan, coordinator of the association. Because beyond men who have relationships with other men, are also concerned “transsexual people, men with multiple partners and also people in a situation of prostitution”, specifies the ARS. The associations provide information on the disease, and give prevention messages, particularly around sexually transmitted infections and offer additional screenings to those who wish.

The center will be active for two monthsand its offer adjusted according to the number of doses available and the demand for slots.

The epidemic is decreasing at national level but in Pays de la Loire, 80 people have contracted the virus until today, according to the ARS, of which 46 people in Loire-Atlantique.
