About a year later, related SUVs Peugeot 3008 and 5008 should change the generation, but the current models are entrusted with another (probably the last) important mission. They became the first carriers of the new hybrid system, which will subsequently appear on many other models within the Stellantis concern. This choice is dictated by two reasons. Firstly, the debut of a new power unit on proven machines will reduce the risks in case of childhood illnesses. And secondly, this fall, the big Peugeot 5008 will lose the most powerful 180-horsepower versions, leaving only 130-horsepower engines. So the new hybrid version will be very useful for him.

At the heart of the new hybrid system is a seriously upgraded turbo 1.2. The developers claim that this is the third generation of the PureTech gasoline engine, and in this form it will be able to meet the promising Euro-7 eco-norms. Among the new things are a turbocharger with a variable geometry guide vane, a chain instead of a belt in the timing drive, as well as the ability to work on the Miller economy cycle. Power has increased from 131 to 136 hp, but the torque is the same (230 Nm).

Instead of the eight-speed automatic Aisin, the new motor relies on a dual-clutch robot developed by Punch Powertrain. A 48-volt traction electric motor with 29 hp is built into the gearbox. It helps the internal combustion engine during starting and at low speed, and as a result, the developers promise a 15% reduction in fuel consumption. The capacity of the traction battery is only 0.9 kWh, so in purely electric mode, hybrid crossovers can travel no more than one kilometer, and even then at low speed. The hybrid Peugeot 3008 and 5008 will appear on the European market in early 2023.
