A new NASA tool lets you hear what your voice would sound like on Mars

NASA offers Internet users the opportunity to simulate what your voice would sound like on Marsthanks to a new online tool created from data collected by the Perseverance rover.

The space agency invites all interested to record their own audio message and listen to their Martian version on their websiteas well as access to a playlist with recordings collected by the Perseverance, equipped with two microphones, which allows the sounds of the red planet to be recorded directly.

To use this tool, you need to go to the “Sounds of Mars” section, select the “You on Mars” tab and hold down the button to record an audio. Then it you must download the file to listen to the recording.

The Martian sound research findings, presented at the 53rd Lunar and Planetary Science conference, are part of a study that calculates the speed of sound on the planet. Scientists found that the Martian sound propagation speed was regarding 240 meters per second, less than the speed of sound on Earth, which is regarding 340 meters per second.

Mars has an unusual atmosphere, the temperature, density and chemical composition of which are very different from those of Earth. Are differences have three main effects, such as the speed of soundvolume and sound quality, which will change the shape of sound in the Martian atmosphereas published RT.
