A new iPhone “Edge” sold for $63,000 at auction

It’s a new record! An original iPhone in a blister pack has been sold for $63,000 at auction. This is the highest sum ever seen for this model. The device went on sale earlier this month.

After receiving 27 offers, this 8 GB iPhone finally went for 63,356 dollars and 40 cents. This is more than 105 times the price of this model initially marketed for 599 dollars. An original iPhone already went up for auction last summer, and the phone sold for “only” $35,000.

Original iPhone still sealed in box sold at auction for $35,000

The value of the smartphone was estimated at $5,000 in 2019.

The history of this model is interesting: it was offered to a person who at the time had a line at Verizon and not at AT&T, the only operator compatible with the iPhone at the time. The phone was therefore unusable and was forgotten on a shelf for a few years. More than 15 years following its release, the saleswoman finally decided to resell it to finance her tattoo shop.
