The “fuel discount” is living its last days
After being put in place on April 1, it has been extended several times, but also revised downwards according to the various scheduled deadlines. The “fuel discount” represents, since November 16, for all French drivers: 10 euro cents including tax in mainland France, 9.42 euro cents including tax in Corsica, 8.33 euro cents including tax in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Reunion and Mayotte. 8.33 euros per MWh for natural gas fuel, 16.18 euros for 100 kg net for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG-c). This discount will go to zero on December 31, 2022 at midnight. This is when the “fuel allowance” will come into effect, which will be reserved for certain profiles.
Who is the “fuel allowance” intended for?
Unlike the discount which was “all public” (for individuals as well as for professionals, independent of both the tax system and the fuel consumed), the new aid announced on December 7 by Elisabeth Borne is targeted. It will indeed be reserved for the most modest workers (with a reference tax income of less than or equal to 15,768 euros annually), who use their vehicle (a car or a two-wheeler) to go to work. In the salary bracket concerned, they would represent more than one in two households, ie around 10 million people.
How much will it represent?
The compensation will represent 100 euros for the whole of 2023. However, the sum will be allocated per person and not per household. Thus, each member of an eligible household will receive their aid of 100 euros. For a person who travels an average of 12,000 km/year, the website wwww.impots.gouv indicates that the aid will represent a contribution “of the order of 10 euro cents per liter over the year”.
How to get it?
If the “fuel discount” which ends on December 31 is simply obtained when going to the pump, the fuel allowance is more selective. It will have to be requested. Nothing too complicated, however… To obtain it, all you have to do is go to the impots.gouv.fr website, enter your tax number and your license plate number. Then, you will have to fill out a sworn statement indicating that you need your car to go to work. The aid of 100 euros will then be paid directly into the taxpayer’s bank account, available to the tax authorities.
