A new egological competition for young people in the region

SHAWINIGAN. The Fondation de la Cité de l’énergie has expanded its annual school competition and the new version, “Ecological Innovations”, is now intended for all preschool and elementary students throughout the Mauricie region.

In addition to the various schools in the region’s school services, the contest is also intended for children who are in an English-speaking school, as well as for the Aboriginal communities of the territory.

Created in 1997, the contest was previously intended for young people from the Center de services scolaire de l’Énergie.

This year, the theme is innovation and energy efficiency. The organizing committee invites students to unleash their imagination by presenting an innovative idea to produce or consume energy responsibly. Students are invited to create an artistic creation in the form of a drawing, collage, model or poster, depending on their cycle.

The winners will win several prizes, including visits to the Cité de l’énergie, children’s books, science kits, etc. These will be announced on May 10 during a prize-giving evening.

“We wanted to breathe new life into the competition and reinvent it. It was possible to do this thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy of Quebec and a partnership with Hydro-Quebec. The competition will come back every year and we have chosen ecological innovation because children will be the managers of tomorrow who will shape the world. Ecological issues are increasingly at the heart of our concerns. We want children to be creative and think of solutions for the world of tomorrow,” says the director general of the Cité de l’énergie, Sandie Letendre.

A component for the general public, aimed at young people aged 5 to 14 from all over Quebec, will also be launched in June 2023.
