A new drama of illegal immigration off the coast of Algiers – Agence Afrique

Six illegal migrants drowned near the coast of the Algerian capital, Algiers, following their boat sank on Monday morning, while six others were rescued and several others are missing, the Algerian coast guard said, quoted by the local press.

According to the same sources, this tragedy took place this Monday, August 8 at 4:00 am (3:00 GMT) not far from Baïnem, west of downtown Algiers. “Six bodies were recovered, and six injured people, including a pregnant woman, were transferred to Baïnem hospital,” added the same source.

Research undertaken by the Coast Guard and the Civil Protection is underway to find other illegal immigrants who were on board the boat and who are missing according to the testimony of the survivors. I

They were regarding twenty migrants, of different nationalities, to travel aboard this makeshift boat to try to reach the European continent.

To do this, migrants usually rent a simple boat for around 2,000 dollars per person. But this journey is always dangerous.

The tragedy that took place on Monday off the coast of Algiers is yet another painful episode in the attempts by illegal Africans to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach the Spanish coast.

In order to fight once morest this irregular migration, the Algerian government often arrests illegal immigrants off the coast or at the country’s borders.
