A new decision on drug prices!

The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, chaired this followingnoon, Thursday, a meeting with the Council of the Medicine Importers Syndicate, in the presence of Captain Karim Jabara, during which the discussion focused on the two topics of the price index and cancerous drugs that are given by injection in hospitals.

Al-Abyadh stressed that “the drug price index issued today by the Ministry of Public Health will be updated weekly, regardless of the exchange rate, because this will encourage importers to deliver medicines and pharmacists to sell them and not store them.”

He added: “The Ministry is working on creating an application that will be announced soon, and that allows the patient to know the price of the medicine he wants to buy, as well as the price of an alternative medicine. As for the application mechanism of the strategic shift that the Ministry of Public Health recently achieved in providing subsidized cancer medicines that are given by injection in hospitals through communication Between the hospital and the agent, and without the patient having to bother getting his medicine from the Karantina warehouse, it was agreed between those present to give an additional period for private hospitals to pay their dues to companies for subsidized cancer medicines, as well as for government hospitals that the white minister stressed the need to deal with in privacy.

He continued, “Giving additional time to private hospitals will allow them to face difficult situations until they receive their dues with the state. As for government hospitals, they need more time to pay their dues, because they generally target the segments of patients who are most in need, and it is our duty for all of us to help them and provide them.” We fully support them.”

The Minister of Health expressed his satisfaction with the “preliminary results demonstrated by the strategic shift that has been achieved in terms of cancer drugs that are given by injection in hospitals,” pointing to “the need for all concerned parties to cooperate to move forward on this pivotal path that primarily guarantees the patient’s interest.”

The agreement with drug importers was the focus of a phone call this evening between Minister Al-Abyad and the Syndicate of Owners of Private Hospitals, Suleiman Haroun, during which the details of the executive mechanism were discussed.
