In Gabon, several people living with the AIDS virus have confirmed a new shortage of so-called antiretroviral drugs for several days.

A first longer rupture occurred at the end of December 2021. The rupture would have lasted 3 months. The patients were replenished for a week at the beginning of February before the new current rupture.

No association of people living with HIV/AIDS wanted to comment on the subject. According to them, the government would require written evidence to prove the existence of a rupture of antiretrovirals or not.

In September 2021, the president of the Network of Associations of People Living with HIV/AIDS (REGAP+), Mariame Fatou Moussounda Nzamba during the show, revealed the scandal of expired antiretrovirals. This scandal had shaken the Republic.

According to a leader in the fight once morest AIDS, the next delivery of antiretrovirals is scheduled in two weeks. “With these repeated ruptures, we fear the development of resistance to the virus in the body”, worried this leader.

According to’UNAIDS, Gabon had some 51,000 people living with HIV at the end of 2019. VIH / SIDA for a national prevalence of 4.1%. Only 26,000 people, or 51%, had access to antiretroviral treatment.

In 2020, the Gabonese government spent the tidy sum of 2 billion FCFA for the purchase of antiretrovirals despite serious budgetary tensions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, announced in December 2020 the Gabonese Minister of Health, Dr Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong.

It should be noted, however, that Gabon has also equipped itself with a powerful drug manufacturing plant, including antiretrovirals.
