A new appeal is filed – Diario de Yucatán

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— Former PRI presidents Enrique Ochoa Reza and Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, with the support of Dulce María Sauri Riancho and Manlio Fabio Beltrones Rivera, filed a new appeal with the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) against the reelection of Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas.

The appeal requests that the call issued by the PRI’s Internal Processes Commission on July 12 to open the process of renewing the National Executive Committee be suspended, and to allow the reelection of the politician from Campeche.

The former PRI leaders argue that there were multiple irregularities in the issuance of the call, mainly that it is illegally based on the statutes amended in the 24th National Assembly on July 7, which have not yet been endorsed by the National Electoral Institute (INE).

In their brief to the TEPJF, they requested that this challenge be added to the other one they filed against the National Assembly, which is included in the report of Judge Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón, so that it is resolved jointly and the invalidity of both the statutes and the procedure for renewing the PRI leadership is declared.

Enrique Ochoa Reza and Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, with the support of Dulce María Sauri Riancho and Manlio Fabio Beltrones, considered that the issuance of the call is totally illegal, as it expressly contravenes the provisions of articles 173, paragraph 2 of the Statutes and 14, paragraphs 1 and 4 of the Regulations for the Election of Party Leaders.

The document states that its publication coincides with the federal and state electoral processes, “a situation that the aforementioned regulations establish as an express prohibition to carry out the processes of renewal of the party leadership.”

Furthermore, they considered that said call violates the constitutional principle of gender parity, since article 173 of the party’s Statutes establishes said principle in the integration of single-person positions, including the national board, “so that the possibility that the current leader can be re-elected in two other ordinary periods, after one ordinary and one extraordinary period has already concluded, is unconstitutional and anti-statutory, because it fails to comply with and violates the rule of parity in the election of leaders, since it would prevent the alternate fulfillment of said principle and that a woman could be a leader.”

“Alito” Moreno complains

PRI President Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas has once again lashed out against PRI members who criticize his administration and the recent reforms to the party’s statutes, calling them “employees of power” and “emissars of the government.”

“Victim of slander”

In a video recorded in his PRI offices and published on social media, the leader said he was the victim of slander and lies, but assured that they would not distract him from his objective: “to defend the Judiciary from the harmful reform.”
