A Netflix account scam is underway

Be careful if you are the owner of a Netflix account and have recently received an email mentioning a “billing problem.”

Netflix users are currently the target of a phishing campaign. Two of our readers forwarded us an email in which users were asked to log into their Netflix account to correct a billing error. An email which is of course a fake, since sent from a third party address, having no connection with Netflix.

“We were unable to renew your subscription due to a billing error. We have therefore temporarily restricted your benefits pending confirmation of your information. For more information, please visit the Help Center or contact us” might we read in the email.

When they click on the link in the email, Internet users are invited to log in with their Netflix account. They then give access to their personal data without knowing it to hackers, who can then hack other user accounts, with the collected identifiers.

In addition to the email address, two spelling errors made it easy to identify this email as a fake.

If you are the victim of such a scam, change your Netflix credentials as soon as possible and also make sure to change your logins on all other sites where you are likely to use similar credentials.
