According to the data of the State Forestry Service, the volume of dry and drying stands in the territory of the municipality of Panevėžys district due to the damages of the bark beetle is almost 28 thousand. cubic meters and exceeds the criterion provided for in Article 18, Part 3 of the Law on Forests. This criterion was also exceeded in the territory of the municipality of Joniškis district, where the volume of trees damaged by wind and hail in the state forests is 27 thousand. cubic meters.
In the mentioned municipalities, special measures for protection and elimination of the consequences of natural disasters in forests are being applied.
August 4 a natural disaster due to damage by forest pests has already been declared in the municipalities of Rokiškis, Šalčininkai, Trakai, Vilnius and Ignalina.
Please note that after the announcement of a natural disaster, forest managers, owners and users must inspect their forest holdings located in the aforementioned municipalities within 10 calendar days from the announcement of the announcement of the forest natural disaster. If you notice violations of the bark beetle typographer or wind in your forest property, you must report them to the State Forestry Service within 5 calendar days and, upon receiving instructions, implement sanitary forest protection measures in time.
The most effective forest sanitary protection measure against bark-boring typographers is the timely felling of a tree damaged by these pests and removal of the produced wood from the conifer forest, peeling or grinding into chips.
Visiting forests damaged by natural disasters will not be restricted, except for places where sanitary felling or spraying is carried out. Visitors to the forest will continue to be able to freely visit, pick mushrooms and pick berries, but it is recommended to refrain from visiting wind-damaged forests, it is necessary to pay attention to bent, split, stuck or otherwise wind-damaged trees, informational and warning signs installed in forests.
Specialists of the State Forestry Service and the Department of Environmental Protection have created a record for trees damaged by forest pests interactive map. In it, you can see if there is a fixed focus of forest pests in your or your neighbor’s forest, how it spread and what actions have been taken.
The data is entered into the interactive map by the specialists of the State Forestry Service, the Department of Environmental Protection, the State Protected Areas Service and the State Forestry Office.
We ask everyone to actively monitor the condition of their forests and inform about new outbreaks!

**Short Interview with State Forestry Service Representative:**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us today. The recent data from the State Forestry Service shows significant damage to forests in Panevėžys and Joniškis districts due to bark beetles and severe weather. Can you tell us more about the extent of this damage?
**Representative**: Thank you for having me. Yes, the situation is quite concerning. In Panevėžys district, we observed nearly 28,000 cubic meters of dry and drying stands owing to bark beetle infestations. In Joniškis, the damage from wind and hail has led to a similar volume of approximately 27,000 cubic meters. Having these figures exceed legal thresholds indicates a serious ecological threat.
**Interviewer**: What measures are being taken in response to this natural disaster?
**Representative**: We have declared a natural disaster in several municipalities—including Rokiškis and Vilnius—due to the extensive damage. This declaration mandates that forest managers, owners, and users conduct inspections of their forest holdings within ten days to assess the situation. If they discover any signs of infestations or damage, they must report it to our office within five days and follow the necessary sanitary measures.
**Interviewer**: What are the recommended actions for forest owners?
**Representative**: The most effective response is to promptly fell any trees affected by bark beetles and to remove the wood. This can involve either peeling the bark or grinding it into chips to mitigate further risks. Timeliness is crucial in preventing further spread of these pests.
**Interviewer**: Regarding public access to these affected areas, what should visitors be aware of?
**Representative**: Forest visits are generally allowed, although we advise caution. Areas undergoing sanitary felling or spraying will be restricted for safety reasons. We encourage visitors to continue enjoying the forests, like picking mushrooms and berries, but recommend avoiding areas significantly impacted by wind damage for their own safety.
**Interviewer**: Thank you for your insights. It’s crucial that both forest managers and the public take these matters seriously to protect our natural resources.
**Representative**: Absolutely. Together, with timely action and awareness, we can help safeguard our forests for future generations. Thank you for bringing attention to this issue.
