One hot day in February 2014, Silvia Gloria Gallardo, 34 years old, was last seen in the town of Yacanto, province of Cordoba. It was common for him to travel every week to the city of Córdoba for work, which is why no one was alarmed, at first, by his absence. But when her sister recounted the days without news from her, she asked a co-worker if she knew anything regarding her: He replied that he had not seen her in weeks.
Gloria, as her family also calls her, is the third of eight siblings and until her disappearance she lived in that town in Córdoba – located regarding 200 kilometers from the provincial capital – with her daughter Yamila and her son-in-law, Hugo Suárez, in a house that she had built. According to her family, that bond it had stopped being good a long time ago: They had constant fights and I wanted to ask them to leave their house because coexistence was no longer sustainable.
Gloria’s routine was to travel every week to the city of Córdoba, where she worked as a caregiver for an elderly woman and also as an auctioneer; spend a few days there and then return to her house for a few more days.
On Wednesday, February 12, 2014, when his trace was lost, Gallardo already had a ticket purchased to make the usual trip, Villa Dolores-Córdoba capital. Someone used that bus ticket, but everything indicates that it was not her: That day, at the time that coincided with the route, his daughter Yamila’s cell phone was activated in several cells along the route.
He disappeared at the fair where he lived and worked: a possible settling of scores, suspicions and months without any trace
Dead animals, false testimony and the family’s hypothesis regarding the well near their house
The family’s suspicions regarding what happened point to homicide. They believe that Hugo Suárez, in collaboration with his daughter Yamila, murdered Silvia following an argument and disposed of her remains in a bucket well that is located on land adjacent to the house in which they also lived with the daughter of Silvia’s partner and granddaughter.
This is how he tells it Analía Prado, Silvia’s sister and who has been aware of the file since day one, in dialogue with PERFIL. He says that they had a very good relationship with Gloria, that the bond between them was strengthened during a time that they lived together in Córdoba capital when they were younger. In Yacanto they lived very close to each other and visited each other often: “My bond with her was strong. Then all this was unleashed and life gave me the strength to take charge and put myself at the forefront of the cause.”
As time has passed since the disappearance, Analía says, Several clues made her suspicious of the couple..
Two days before, on February 10, Silvia had asked her sister if they might meet because she wanted to talk to her and tell her some things. Analía remembers that that day her schedule became complicated and they postponed the meeting in which, she says, she was surely going to tell her regarding the difficult family situation she was going through, something that she already partly knew, but this time she had reached a limit. .
Finally, Silvia told another of her sisters, Beatriz: “She was going to ask Suárez to leave the house, and she told him that she was going to ask them that if Yamila (her daughter) wanted to follow him, she should leave, that she was tired of all the things he did to her,” Analía tells this medium.
For her, there are very few doubts: “In my head I say they argued, he got out of hand and killed her. “That is the strongest hypothesis that we have as a family.”he assures.
Among the clues that Analía lists there is one that is, to say the least, disturbing: she says that shortly following Silvia was last seen, Suárez He “hanged” and buried the house animals, dogs and cats, which were inseparable pets from his sister: “Wherever Silvia moved, the animals went.” The hypothesis they have is that, among other things, she sought to prevent the animals from recognizing her trail meters away.
The case is classified as an investigation of whereregardings by the prosecutor. Lucrecia Zambranafrom the Prosecutor’s Office of Villa Dolores, province of Córdoba.
He went for a run and “just disappeared”: a security camera image and a mystery that has been going on for 7 years
The hypotheses used in the case were guided by the possibility that Silvia Gallardo was a victim of a human trafficking network; It was also said that she practiced prostitution – something that her family is unaware of – that she had alleged links to illegal activities and emphasis was placed on investigating her activities. The truth is None of these lines of investigation, nor the alleged responsibility of his daughter and son-in-law, might be proven to this day. Nothing was heard from Silvia either.
In 2018, an operation was carried out around a bucket well located on land that borders Gallardo’s house, where clothing that belonged to her had been found half-buried. In that well, which has a depth of regarding 60 meters and a diameter of less than a square meter, a superficial search was carried out, but not inward, and his family believes that his remains might be there.
“There are a lot of guidelines that indicate that the material author of her disappearance is the son-in-law, in collaboration with the daughter. We have apathy from a prosecutor’s office that has no idea where they stand,” he questions in communication with PERFIL. Germán Marconfamily lawyer.
Marcón, representing Silvia’s sister, requests that an operation be carried out at the site with special technology equipment that will allow the investigation to continue: “We understand that the remains are there, that it is a bucket well that is more than 60 meters. He mightn’t take her any further. But until today, following so many years, no one went in there, they simply inspected the outside,” he explains.
The same year that the operation was carried out, Silvia’s daughter and her partner were charged with false testimony. “They lied several times, they said they were in one place and they were in another, and when they asked for the cell phones, that was proven,” says Marcón.
“Silvia had a ticket to return to Córdoba the same day she disappeared in the morning, and she always made the same journey from Villa Dolores to Córdoba. That day, someone got on the bus, but it wasn’t her. and the driver declares that he obviously took the information from a certain ‘Silvia Gallardo’. The daughter’s phone connects to the cells of Las Rosas, Los Hornillos and Mina Clavero. Someone took her ticket that day, we believe it was her daughter because her cell phone opens to the cells at the same time the bus traveled. Until now, the prosecutor’s office did not see those simple things,” explains Marcon.
He also points out that in their testimonies they mentioned some of these alleged links between Silvia Gallardo and criminal situations, but then they did not reaffirm them and points out that the objective was to divert the investigation. Days following the operation around the bucket well, he says, they moved out of Silvia’s house in Yacanto and were not seen once more.
In a few months, on February 12, 2024, the disappearance case of Silvia Gloria Gallardo will turn 10 years old. After 12 years, if there were no new movements in the case, it would be archived. Lawyer Germán Marcón urges the prosecution to call Suárez and his partner for an investigation to interrupt the statute of limitations of the case.
Silvia’s sister demands that the Villa Dolores prosecutor’s office carry out the operation in the bucket well to find out if her remains are there or not: “I have been asking for it for years. Since 2014 our life has become hell and we want justice for my sister. We cannot grieve for her, beyond the fact that we know and feel what happened and we feel her every day. But it’s not the same as finding it, know that that light went out, and rest. If she rests, we rest.”
